The editorial verdict

The ownership case.

X390 is a large-area mower whose endurance and height range are more compelling than its novelty features. It warrants a careful property survey because a narrow deck and long transport routes can make headline acreage an incomplete comparison.

Reasons to consider it

  • 2–4-inch North American cut range
  • Long published mowing cycle
  • Large-area focus

Go in knowing

  • Capacity depends on route efficiency
  • Not the AWD X4 architecture
  • Long-term uptime remains untested

01 / THE DETAILS

Endurance is the reason to look at X390

Navimow rates X390 for 2.5 acres and publishes a 240-minute full-charge mowing time with a 100-minute charging time. Those figures distinguish the top X3 option, but they are manufacturer references rather than our measurements. The question is whether that cycle leaves enough time to maintain the actual property after accounting for obstacles, travel and the hours when people want to use the lawn.

Its 9.3-inch cutting width is relatively modest beside wide dual-disc robots. That is not automatically a disadvantage in a complicated garden, but it means daily output depends on efficient movement and sustained operation. A buyer replacing a ride-on mower should resist comparing deck width alone or assuming the robot finishes in one session. The operating model is frequent maintenance spread over time.

A sophisticated position system still needs a survey

EFLS 3.0 is presented as combining improved RTK coverage with visual positioning methods. The relevant benefit would be fewer interruptions around buildings and tree cover. We would test those transitions and record how the mower responds when its usual route is blocked. A garden's hardest corner often reveals more than a long run of parallel stripes in the open.

The North American 2–4-inch height range is useful for owners who prefer taller grass. The 50% internal slope and 25% boundary slope ratings should be considered independently. X390 is not an all-wheel-drive substitute for every steep-terrain mower, and traction-control language does not erase the limits. The property assessment should identify steep turning points and narrow routes before the owner commits to maintaining the whole estate with one machine.

03 / THE DETAILS

Large-area ownership should prioritise uptime

The product promotes a camera-based object-detection system, connected monitoring and other app features. We would judge those by prevented interventions, clear error reporting and reliable task resumption. Decorative mowing patterns may be enjoyable, but a machine covering several acres first needs to finish its ordinary schedule. A missed section can become a larger catch-up problem if nobody notices it for several days.

Against the X4 range, X390's attraction is published area capacity rather than the newer machine's AWD steering design. Against a dealer-installed Automower, compare service access and the complete installed system. Our field questions include edge consistency, charging reliability in poor weather and how easily a heavy mower can be recovered from the far end of the property. Neither a large battery nor a polished app provides that evidence on its own. A support plan and a backup mowing option belong in a serious estate purchase.

A practical acceptance test before relying on it

For X390, the most useful metric is completed area per available day, broken down into cutting, travel and charging. A 240-minute published cycle can look impressive while hiding a long journey between separated sections. We would also record whether the owner's preferred four-inch setting changes task duration under the actual growth conditions. Compare that complete result with a wider-deck alternative, not merely their battery specifications. At estate scale, verify that error notifications identify unfinished areas promptly. A large machine should save management effort as well as physical mowing effort, and an attractive striped field is only one part of that outcome.

05 / THE DETAILS

Setup, maintenance and the ownership decision

X390 ownership should begin with a realistic area map and a time budget. Name distant sections clearly and distinguish transport paths from grass that must be cut. The narrow 9.3-inch deck means efficient routing and long working cycles do much of the capacity work. A remote section reached through several gates can consume disproportionate attention. Ask the installer or seller to show how interrupted tasks are recorded and resumed. On a 2.5-acre-class property, knowing exactly what remains unfinished is more useful than seeing a reassuring overall percentage with no explanation of skipped areas.

The four-inch maximum and North American model identity should remain visible in the purchase record. Different regional X3 specifications should not be combined. At the chosen height, observe whether the finish stays even around changes in grade and after normal weather interruptions. Do not treat the long published battery cycle as a promise at every height and grass condition. We would compare several complete days and separate useful cutting from transport and charging. That distinction is necessary to decide whether the mower has enough margin to leave the grounds available for the owner's preferred activities.

The EFLS 3.0 arrangement deserves a survey of the worst positioning locations. Visual assistance and traction control address different problems, neither of which makes every shaded or slippery route suitable. Validate the antenna configuration and the path home beneath trees. Keep margins at sloping boundaries consistent with the manual's separate boundary rating. A safe controlled object test can reveal avoidance clearance, but mowing should still be scheduled away from people and animals. The larger working area increases the chance that someone enters a section out of the owner's immediate view, making clear routines particularly valuable.

Routine maintenance should account for the amount of ground this robot may cover. Inspect the cutting disc, wheels and sensor surfaces and clear debris using the approved methods. Obtain the correct replacement battery and charging equipment prices locally. A large-capacity pack is not evidence of unlimited service life, and a long return shipping process can leave substantial lawn work undone. The owner should know how to move or recover the mower safely from the far end of the property. Camera monitoring can help locate a problem, but it cannot physically clear an obstruction or repair a damaged component.

Connected services, user access and anti-theft functions should be reviewed at installation and again on renewal or resale. Establish which functions remain available without optional subscriptions and how a changed phone regains control. Compare X390 with an X4 or dealer-installed Automower through actual property needs: endurance, cut height, traction, deck width and support. Decorative patterns are a secondary benefit. A sound purchase includes a fallback mowing plan until the machine has completed representative schedules reliably. We would consider that operational preparation part of the estate system rather than an admission that automation has failed.

06 / THE DETAILS

Seasonal storage and return to work

X390's seasonal restart should be treated as an estate inspection. Check remote charging routes, boundary margins and ordinary access before scheduling the full property. Follow the battery-storage guidance for the correct North American version and inspect the cutting system at the intended height. Run representative distant areas first and confirm the app identifies completed work accurately. A long published mowing cycle is less useful if the first spring week reveals a blocked route that prevents the machine from reaching a substantial part of the lawn.
