A practical specification mix
L40 Ultra packages many of the mechanisms that matter to routine cleaning: a side brush that extends and lifts, a mop that reaches beyond the body's usual edge and a station that handles much of the wet aftercare. That is a coherent set of priorities for a home with hard floors and scattered rugs. It does not require the buyer to make a mechanical novelty the reason for purchasing. The sensible question is whether its particular blend covers the household's difficult places. Walk around the room and identify cabinet edges, chair clusters and rug transitions. Those are the areas where the feature list should translate into less manual work.
The optional brush is an important buying detail
The official description lists the anti-tangle TriCut brush as a separate purchase. That means a retailer photograph, bundle title or general statement about hair management should not be taken as proof that it comes in the box. Check the exact supplied roller and the compatibility of any upgrade. Long-haired households should include the price of the intended brush when comparing alternatives. A cutting or detangling mechanism also needs inspection and correct servicing; it is not a licence to pick up cords or fabric strips. Evaluate how much hair remains in the roller, intake and dock transfer path after real use, rather than assuming an accessory name settles the issue.
Reach depends on a useful path
MopExtend RoboSwing and the extending side brush target narrow edge zones. Their most convincing test is a kitchen with fixed cabinetry, where a repeated uncleaned strip is easy to see and irritating to handle by hand. Around movable furniture, the robot has to decide how close to approach and where to turn. A corner crowded by chair legs can remain inaccessible despite an extending tool. Keep the first map realistic and inspect the result along the wall after a normal run. If a second pass is needed, compare the additional cleaning with the extra time and water rather than simply enabling every intensive setting permanently.

Hot washing is a station benefit
Hot-water mop washing and warm-air drying aim to reduce the manual work between repeated floor tasks. They can make frequent kitchen cleaning more practical, but they are not evidence that the floor itself has been sanitised. The owner still has to deal with wastewater, residue in the wash area and worn pads. Think about the carrying route to a sink and the ability to remove the tray before deciding where the station should live. In a smaller home, its service area may be more important than the robot's dimensions. A dock that is pleasant to use is more likely to support the daily routine the purchase was meant to create.

A sensible shortlist, with generation discipline
Compare L40 Ultra with X40 Ultra if the additional documented dirt-response or cleaning-control features are relevant, and with L10s Ultra Gen 2 if a simpler edge-mopping package may suffice. Be careful with L40 Ultra Gen 2 and L40s names, which refer to different products. This review concerns the original L40 Ultra linked below. We have not performed pickup or stain tests. The important follow-up evidence would be edge coverage, rescue frequency, optional-brush maintenance and time spent servicing the station. L40 Ultra is a convincing design when those are the household's actual chores; it should not be selected merely because its name sits between two other models.
Buying and maintaining the exact L40 package
The separately listed TriCut brush makes the L40's unboxing inventory particularly important. Save the retailer's contents list and identify the installed roller before deciding whether the optional accessory is needed. If long hair is the main concern, compare the complete cost of the intended brush configuration with alternatives that supply their preferred hair system as standard. A cutting brush also brings its own handling instructions; it is not a reason to allow cords, tassels or fabric strips into the path. Inspect ordinary hair collection first. The useful outcome is less time removing wrapped strands while maintaining pickup, not simply having a more elaborate brush fitted. Keep the exact accessory reference so later replacements do not depend on guessing from photographs of similar Dreame parts.
The extending and liftable side brush should be observed along the home's actual boundaries. Watch a run beside cabinets and around a chair cluster, then inspect whether the dry tool avoids dragging wet residue into areas where it does not belong. Keep the first task modest enough that its decisions are easy to follow. For mopping, begin with floor-safe water settings and check the finish after drying. A hot wash at the station does not make every cleaner chemical suitable for the robot or the floor. Position the base with room to remove the wash area and lift full tanks. If its only location requires carrying dirty water over a valuable rug, account for that awkwardness before deciding that automated pad care has made the entire routine effortless.
Regional shopping matters more than the relative position of L40 in the catalogue. The original L40 Ultra, L40 Ultra Gen 2 and L40s variants should be compared as separate configurations, with their own accessories and support. Ask a Canadian seller to confirm warranty eligibility and repair logistics for the exact unit rather than relying on a US page's general benefits. Configure navigation and household account access before optional remote functions, and retain a way to stop or return the robot from its physical controls. If the original L40 meets the room-access requirement, a newer name alone is not a reason to pay more. The evidence that matters is reliable edge reach, a brush arrangement suited to the hair load and a tank-care routine the household will actually keep performing.
